Have you visited any local museums lately? Many of our real estate agents grew up visiting the museums near our Rockford homes for sale, and now they take their own kids to these locations. Join them at these five museums in town and see what's kept them coming back again and again.
The distinctive Swiss-inspired design of the Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum was created by Rockford businessman and mayor Robert Tinker after touring Europe in 1862. He built the cottage in 1865 and lived in it with his wife (local legend Mary Dorr Manny) and their family over several generations.
In the early 1940s, his descendants bequeathed the property, its grounds, and its contents to the Rockford Park District. It's been operating as a public museum ever since and still contains most of the Victorian artifacts the Tinker family left behind.

You can visit this museum Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and this winter is a particularly good time to visit.

The museum is only open from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sundays, so book your spot in advance to make sure a guide will be available.
